Chapter 1 - The Command

Alessandro stared at the tiny finger pointing at the floor.
He was a man who ordered executions before his morning espresso.
Now, a three-year-old girl in mismatched boots was giving him a direct order.
Sophia’s face drained of all color as she stepped forward to intervene.
“Emma, no,” she gasped, reaching for her daughter’s shoulder.
Alessandro raised a single hand, stopping the terrified mother in her tracks.
He looked from the child’s innocent eyes to the massive, terrifying dog resting its head in her lap.
Bruno opened one eye, watching his master with quiet warning.
Slowly, deliberately, the mafia boss lowered himself to sit on the edge of the velvet armchair.
The tension in the room snapped like a cut wire.
Marco, the security chief, actually let out a breath he had been holding.
Emma smiled brilliantly and went back to combing Bruno’s dark fur.
“Good boy,” she whispered to Alessandro, oblivious to the fact that she had just tamed the underworld’s most dangerous man.
Alessandro watched them for a long time, an unreadable expression settling over his sharp features.
For the first time in ten years, he felt a strange sense of peace within the walls of his own fortress.
But peace in his world was always an illusion.
The shrill scream of the estate’s perimeter alarm suddenly shattered the quiet afternoon.
Heavy boots pounded down the marble hallway outside the study.
Marco’s radio hissed with frantic, overlapping voices screaming about a breach at the southern gate.
“Boss, we have multiple armed hostiles inside the wire,” Marco shouted, drawing his weapon.
Alessandro stood up, his eyes suddenly dark and murderous.

They weren't heading for the main mansion.
The security cameras showed ten men in tactical gear rushing straight toward the maid's quarters.
