Chapter 7 - The Mistress
The massive explosion ripped violently through the subterranean vault with a deafening roar.
A powerful shockwave threw Dominic aggressively against the hard marble corridor wall.
Thick black smoke and the piercing screech of fire alarms completely filled the underground bank.
Clara scrambled blindly through the falling debris, coughing wildly as she searched for Dominic.
She found him bleeding heavily from a deep, nasty laceration on his forehead.
She dragged his heavy frame bravely toward the emergency exit stairs.
They burst out into a narrow back alley, immediately blending into the panicked crowds gathering on the busy street.
Clara hijacked a running delivery van, shoving the terrified driver out onto the sidewalk without hesitation.
She drove erratically through traffic, desperately trying to keep Dominic conscious as he bled in the passenger seat.
Dominic grabbed her hand tightly, his vision blurring dangerously from the severe head trauma.
He muttered that Vincent’s secret mistress, a woman named Sofia, was the vice president of that specific bank branch.
If the ledger wasn't in the box, Sofia had definitely removed it before the bomb was planted.
Clara sped aggressively toward the Upper East Side, parking illegally outside Sofia’s luxury penthouse building.
They bypassed the terrified doorman and kicked the heavy penthouse door completely off its hinges.
Sofia screamed in sheer terror, dropping her expensive coffee cup as Dominic pointed his gun directly at her chest.
Clara aggressively pinned the wealthy woman to the marble kitchen island, demanding the ledger.
Sofia sobbed hysterically, pointing a shaking finger to a wall safe hidden behind a large abstract painting.
Dominic forced her to input the code, reaching inside to pull out the thick, leather-bound book.
Sofia begged pathetically for her life, promising she had not read a single page of the contents.

She then looked up at Clara with a twisted, incredibly malicious smile.
Sofia revealed that Clara’s trusted FBI handler, Special Agent Vance, was the one who helped Vincent plant the bomb.
