Chapter 5 - The Bounty

Vincent’s voice echoed sharply through the cheap plastic receiver.
He told Dominic that he had exactly two minutes to surrender before the entire building was reduced to ash.
Dominic slammed the phone down and rushed to grab his spare weapons from a hidden floorboard cache.
He tossed a loaded Glock directly to Clara, who caught it with smooth, professional ease.
They immediately heard heavy combat boots stomping rapidly up the wooden stairwell outside the apartment door.
Dominic kicked out the fire escape window and shoved Clara roughly out onto the rusty iron landing.
Heavy caliber bullets tore through the apartment door, shredding the drywall into a thick cloud of white dust.
Dominic fired back suppressing shots, buying them a few precious seconds of time.
He climbed out onto the fire escape, and they scrambled frantically up toward the roof.
Vincent’s mercenaries leaned dangerously out of the downstairs windows and fired upward into the dark.
A stray bullet grazed Clara’s thigh, causing her to cry out in pain and stumble on the metal grating.
Dominic grabbed her tightly by the belt and hoisted her violently over the roof ledge.
They sprinted across the tar-covered rooftop, jumping a terrifying four-foot gap to the adjacent building.
They broke through a rusted rooftop access door and ran down into a dark, abandoned textile factory.
Clara collapsed weakly against a brick wall, clutching her heavily bleeding leg.
Dominic ripped a long piece of fabric from his shirt and tied a tight tourniquet around her thigh.
He pulled out his encrypted burner phone and dialed Don Falcone, the supreme head of the Commission.
Dominic desperately requested an emergency sit-down to present evidence of his brother's treason.
Don Falcone sighed heavily and sadly on the other end of the secure line.
The old boss apologized to Dominic with genuine, paternal regret.
Falcone revealed that Vincent had already presented fabricated video evidence of Dominic murdering Arthur.
