Chapter 9 - The Final Target

The realization hit Elena like a physical blow to her chest.

Marcus was destroying the hospital to erase all remaining evidence of his failed assassination attempts.

"We have to stop him, there are innocent patients and nurses trapped in that wing!" Elena cried desperately.

Julian did not hesitate, tossing a loaded shotgun to Arthur and grabbing a fresh tactical vest for himself.

"We are going to end this war tonight, once and for all," Julian declared with absolute, chilling certainty.

They stole one of the attackers' armored black SUVs and sped recklessly back toward Ashgrove Memorial.

The night sky was completely illuminated by the bright, terrifying orange glow of the burning hospital wing.

Julian parked the vehicle near the loading docks, leading Elena and Arthur silently through the smoke-filled service corridors.

They reached the fourth floor just as Marcus stepped out of Room 417, holding a lit flare and a wicked smile.

Marcus looked exactly like Julian, but his eyes were filled with a chaotic, greedy madness.

"I should have suffocated you with a pillow six months ago, dear brother," Marcus mocked loudly over the crackling flames.

Julian raised his weapon, his face completely devoid of any familial love or mercy.

"You made a fatal mistake when you brought her family into our dirty business, Marcus."

Marcus laughed and suddenly pulled a terrified, crying nurse from the adjacent supply closet, holding a gun directly to her head.

It was Sarah, Elena's best friend and favorite coworker.

"Drop the guns, Julian, or I paint the hallway with her brains," Marcus threatened wickedly.
