Chapter 2 - The Lethal Dose

Elena stopped breathing as the door clicked open.
The mafia boss instantly let go of her wrist and closed his eyes, perfectly mimicking his comatose state.
One of the men in the dark suits stepped quietly into the dimly lit room.
He did not look at the medical monitors or check the patient's chart.
Instead, he pulled a small, unmarked syringe filled with a clear liquid from his jacket pocket.
"Time for his final medicine, nurse," the man said with a cruel, empty smile.
Elena realized instantly that the syringe was meant to stop the boss's heart forever.
Pure adrenaline surged through her veins, overriding her professional training and her common sense.
"You cannot inject that without a doctor's explicit written order," Elena stated, stepping bravely between the assassin and the bed.
The man’s smile vanished, and he reached into his jacket to reveal the black handle of a silenced pistol.
"Step aside right now, or you can die with him," the assassin threatened coldly.
Before the man could draw his weapon, a massive shadow rose silently from the hospital bed.
The mafia boss lunged forward with terrifying speed, wrapping his muscular arm around the assassin's throat.
With one brutal, sickening twist, the boss snapped the man's neck and dropped his lifeless body to the linoleum floor.
