Chapter 5 - The Collision

"Keep your head completely down!" Julian roared, reaching his muscular leg over the center console.
He slammed his heavy boot directly down onto Elena's foot, forcing the gas pedal completely to the floorboards.
The old silver sedan accelerated violently, the tires squealing in protest against the slick concrete.
The masked men opened fire instantly, shattering the windshield into a million deadly pieces of flying glass.
Elena screamed and covered her face as bullets tore viciously through the dashboard and the seats.
Julian steered the wheel from the passenger side, aiming the speeding car directly at the men blocking the exit.
The assassins dove frantically out of the way just a fraction of a second before impact.
The sedan smashed brutally into the rear quarter of the black SUV, pushing it out of the way with a sickening crunch of metal.
They burst out into the rainy city streets, leaving the hospital and the gunfire completely behind them.
Elena pulled herself up, her heart pounding so hard she felt like it might actually explode.
"You are absolutely insane!" she yelled, swerving the damaged car wildly through the wet traffic.
Julian let out a weak, raspy laugh that quickly turned into a painful, bloody cough.
"I told you I was listening while I was asleep, Elena," he murmured, his eyes fluttering shut.
"I know all about the crushing medical debt your father owes to the local loan sharks."

He opened his eyes, staring at her with a deadly, terrifying seriousness.
"My brother Marcus is the one holding that debt, and he plans to kill your father tomorrow morning."
