Chapter 7 - The Unwelcome Guest

Julian reacted with terrifying speed, snatching the stolen pistol from the table and aiming it directly at the dark hallway.
A tall, older man with graying hair slowly stepped out of the shadows, holding his hands up in complete surrender.
Elena gasped loudly, dropping the medical scissors onto the expensive hardwood floor in sheer disbelief.
"Dad?" she whispered, her voice trembling as she stared at the man she had been trying to save.
Her father looked at her with wide, terrified eyes, completely shocked to see his daughter standing in a mafia bunker.
Julian did not lower his weapon, his dark eyes narrowing with intense, deadly suspicion.
"How did you know the location of my private safe house, Arthur?" Julian demanded coldly.
Arthur swallowed hard, looking nervously between the bleeding mafia boss and his deeply confused daughter.
"Marcus brought me here yesterday to use as bait, but he left me unguarded when the hospital called to say you woke up," Arthur explained frantically.
Elena rushed forward and threw her arms around her father, crying tears of absolute relief.
"You are completely safe now, Dad, Julian is going to help us," Elena promised blindly.
Julian finally lowered the gun, leaning heavily back against the leather cushions as his strength faded.
"If Marcus knows about this location, his men will be coming back here the second they realize we escaped the hospital," Julian warned grimly.
As if on cue, the heavy steel security shutters over the bunker's windows automatically slammed violently shut.

The bunker's electronic defense system began blaring a loud, repeating red siren.
"They just breached the outer perimeter," Julian announced, chambering a round into his stolen pistol.
