Chapter 6 - The Leap of Faith

Maya stared directly down the dark, terrifying barrel of the loaded gun.

She absolutely refused to die in the backseat of a luxury corporate car.

With a sudden, explosive burst of adrenaline, Maya kicked the heavy car door wide open.

She violently rolled out onto the freezing wet pavement just as a suppressed bullet shattered the glass window.

Marcus cursed extremely loudly and quickly jumped out of the driver's seat to violently chase her.

Maya frantically ran toward the dangerous edge of the towering steel suspension bridge.

The dark, freezing river raged violently hundreds of feet directly below her shoes.

"There is absolutely nowhere to go, Maya!" Marcus yelled angrily into the howling wind.

Maya climbed completely over the steel safety railing and looked down at the deadly, terrifying drop.

"Victoria will brutally kill your mother anyway!" Marcus taunted her from a safe distance.

Maya logically knew she had to survive this night if she wanted to actually save her family.

She took a massive, deep breath and bravely let go of the wet metal barrier.

Maya plunged rapidly into the icy darkness as the freezing wind screamed loudly in her ears.

The brutal impact with the dark water knocked the breath completely out of her fragile lungs.

She violently fought against the brutal, swirling current that aggressively tried to drag her to the muddy bottom.

Maya finally broke the rippling surface and gasped desperately for freezing cold air.

She swam incredibly desperately toward the muddy, garbage-strewn riverbank.

When she finally dragged her freezing body onto the rocky shore, she collapsed in total physical exhaustion.

A pair of incredibly expensive leather shoes suddenly appeared directly in her blurred line of sight.

Maya looked fearfully up, fully expecting to see Marcus ready to violently finish the job.

Instead, David was standing powerfully over her wearing a soaking wet, ruined tuxedo.

"You are legally supposed to be locked in a jail cell," Maya choked out in total disbelief.

David knelt quickly down and warmly wrapped a thick wool blanket around her aggressively shivering shoulders.

"I easily bought the corrupt police commissioner," David said simply.

He confidently lifted her completely effortlessly into his strong, warm arms.

"Did you honestly think I would actually let them permanently take me?" he asked with a smirk.

Before Maya could verbally answer, a massive, deafening explosion abruptly rocked the massive bridge directly above them.

David bravely shielded her soft body as burning metal debris rained heavily down into the dark water.

"Marcus just intentionally blew up the SUV to completely fake your tragic death," David whispered into her ear.

Maya looked up at the bright, burning wreckage with incredibly wide, terrified eyes.

"Then Victoria totally thinks I am permanently gone," Maya realized aloud.

David smiled incredibly dangerously in the dim, flickering light of the bridge flames.

"Exactly," he said with a dark tone.

"And now it is finally time for us to become complete ghosts."
