Chapter 2 - The Ghost Returns

Maya watched the beautiful woman walk into the room as if she owned the entire building.
David went completely rigid with sudden, aggressive tension.
"Get out of my house, Victoria," David ordered with a voice like solid ice.
Victoria simply laughed and confidently poured herself a drink from his expensive bar.
"Is this the cheap little replacement you found?" Victoria asked, gesturing mockingly toward Maya.
Maya felt a sudden, massive surge of anger in her chest.
"I am his fiancée," Maya said, stepping much closer to David's side.
David looked down at Maya with a strange mixture of shock and profound gratitude.
Victoria's arrogant smile instantly faded into a highly dangerous scowl.
"You are making a massive mistake, David," Victoria warned quietly.
"My only mistake was ever trusting a liar like you," David fired back without hesitation.
Victoria took a slow, deliberate sip of her amber liquor.
"I still own forty-nine percent of your holding company," she reminded him with a smirk.
"If you marry this random street trash, the board will vote you out for mental instability."
Maya swallowed hard, finally realizing the massive scale of this silent corporate war.
David reached out and wrapped his strong arm tightly around Maya's waist.
"Maya is not trash, and we are legally getting married this weekend," David lied incredibly smoothly.
Victoria slammed her crystal glass down hard onto the glass table.
"We will see about that," Victoria hissed before storming furiously out of the room.
A heavy silence immediately fell over the massive luxury estate.
Maya carefully stepped away from his warm touch.
"Your life is incredibly messy," Maya whispered into the quiet room.
David simply ran a tired hand through his dark hair.
Before he could speak, Maya's cheap cell phone rang loudly from her purse.
She quickly answered it, and her face went instantly pale.
"Maya, what is wrong?" David asked with genuine concern.
May you like
Maya looked up with hot tears rapidly forming in her eyes.
"The hospital just called to say my mother's surgeon has been inexplicably reassigned."
