Chapter 6 - The Race Against Time

Claire felt the room aggressively spinning around her as she stared at her own messy signature.

She could faintly remember waking up incredibly dizzy this morning, assuming it was just typical wedding day nerves.

Evan had flawlessly orchestrated every single detail to completely ruin her life.

"The bank transfer is heavily encrypted, but it officially clears at exactly midnight tonight," Mark stated, checking his watch.

They only had three hours left to completely freeze the massive account before the money disappeared offshore forever.

Claire paced the small motel room, her bare feet pacing aggressively across the dirty carpet.

"We need to find an honest judge who can file an emergency injunction to stop the massive wire transfer," Claire said.

Mark pulled a burner phone from his jacket and began dialing a highly confidential number.

"I know a retired federal judge who owes me his life, he can sign the injunction tonight," Mark promised quietly.

He gave the judge their exact location and arranged a desperate meeting at a nearby private office building.

They carefully sneaked out of the dark motel and managed to steal a rusted pickup truck from the parking lot.

Mark drove cautiously through the dark city backroads, actively avoiding the main illuminated highways.

They arrived at the towering glass office building and took the service elevator directly to the top floor.

The luxurious office was completely dark, illuminated only by the massive city skyline shining through the windows.

Judge Harrison was sitting quietly behind his massive mahogany desk, waiting patiently for them in the dark.

Claire rushed forward, frantically placing the fraudulent trust documents directly onto the expensive desk.

"Please, your honor, you have to completely freeze these specific bank accounts right now," Claire pleaded desperately.

Judge Harrison slowly put on his reading glasses, completely ignoring the desperate panic in her voice.

He gently slid the documents directly into a heavy mechanical shredder sitting next to his desk.

The loud, aggressive sound of the shredder destroying their only evidence echoed through the dark room.

"I am incredibly sorry, Mark, but Evan offered me ten million dollars to look the other way tonight," the judge whispered.

The heavy office doors suddenly slammed open, and Peter confidently walked into the room holding a loaded gun.
