Chapter 10 - The Mother's Wrath

The entire nation watched in complete, horrified silence as Evan held the tiny girl hostage on live television.
Claire felt a massive surge of pure, primal maternal fury violently explode within her chest.
Mark slowly raised his hands, taking a tiny, calculated step to the left to completely draw Evan’s frantic attention.
"You are entirely surrounded, Evan, there is absolutely no way out of this room," Mark stated calmly.
For a single fraction of a second, Evan’s furious eyes flicked away from Claire to look directly at Mark.
That was the only mistake the desperate groom needed to make.
Claire launched herself aggressively forward, moving faster than anyone could possibly react.
She violently slammed her entire body into Evan’s chest, completely knocking the sharp knife out of his hand.
They crashed heavily onto the hard studio floor, completely shattering the expensive glass news desk.
Mark sprinted forward, immediately snatching Sophie away from the dangerous struggle and holding her safely behind the cameras.
Evan desperately tried to punch Claire, but she viciously struck him across the face with the heavy studio microphone.
He slumped entirely unconscious against the ruined set, completely defeated on live national television.
Heavily armed tactical police units flooded into the broadcasting studio, immediately placing heavy iron cuffs on the unconscious criminal.
Claire aggressively crawled over to her weeping daughter and pulled her into a deeply desperate, loving embrace.
The nightmare was officially and completely over; the massive inheritance was perfectly safe, and Evan was going to prison forever.
Several peaceful weeks quickly passed, and Claire finally settled into a beautiful, highly secure new house with Sophie.
She tucked the warm blanket perfectly under Sophie’s chin and softly kissed her daughter’s forehead goodnight.
Claire turned around and suddenly noticed a beautiful, entirely unfamiliar black music box sitting quietly on the wooden dresser.

She slowly opened the delicate lid and found a fresh, glossy photograph of Sophie sleeping peacefully in this exact bed tonight.
Written flawlessly on the back was a chilling note from her supposedly dead husband, stating that he was finally coming back to collect his money.
