Chapter 2 - The Microphone

Claire stared at the forged legal documents in her trembling hands.
The people she had trusted most in the world were actively plotting to steal her daughter’s future.
Evan quickly recovered from the slap and lunged forward to grab the papers back.
Claire expertly dodged his grasp and sprinted toward the center of the silent ballroom.
She grabbed the silver microphone straight out of the wedding singer's hand.
The loud feedback screeched through the massive speakers, making the wealthy guests cover their ears.
"They tried to steal my daughter’s inheritance," Claire announced, her voice booming with undeniable authority.
Gasps erupted from the crowd of high society elites and powerful politicians.
Evan turned completely pale as whispers began to spread like wildfire across the room.
Claire held the torn legal documents high in the air for every single guest to see.
She looked directly into Evan’s panicked eyes with absolute disgust.
She pulled the massive diamond engagement ring off her finger without a shred of hesitation.
Claire threw the expensive ring directly at Evan’s feet, watching it bounce across the marble floor.
"This wedding is officially over, and you are going to prison," she declared into the microphone.
She dropped the microphone, grabbed Sophie’s hand, and turned to walk out of the grand double doors.
Evan aggressively signaled to his private security team standing quietly near the exits.
Six massive men in dark suits immediately moved to block the main hallway.
Claire panicked, realizing she was completely trapped in a room full of dangerous enemies.
She desperately looked around the massive ballroom for any other possible way out.
She locked eyes with Jessica, her lifelong best friend and maid of honor.
Jessica was standing right next to the emergency fire exit near the kitchen doors.
Claire sprinted toward her best friend, dragging Sophie as fast as the little girl could run.
"Open the door, Jess, we have to get out of here right now," Claire pleaded frantically.

Jessica looked at Claire with cold, empty eyes and slowly reached for the heavy iron door handle.
Instead of pushing it open, Jessica pulled a heavy padlock from her purse and locked the exit completely shut.
