Chapter 17 - The Blood Ascent

Clara rappelled rapidly down the steel cable, the icy wind tearing violently at her clothes.
She landed silently on the pristine marble floor of the private penthouse terrace.
She immediately unhooked Titan from his harness, giving the dog a silent hand signal to stay perfectly still.
Adrian followed seconds later, sliding down the cable with a heavy assault rifle slung across his back.
He landed heavily on his bad leg, stifling a painful groan as his boots hit the marble.
Clara instantly raised her suppressed pistol, pointing it toward the massive glass doors leading into the main residence.
Two heavily armed guards were standing casually by a wet bar, entirely unaware of the lethal threat on the balcony.
Clara tapped the glass twice with the muzzle of her gun to get their attention.
The guards spun around in absolute shock, fumbling clumsily for their automatic weapons.
Clara squeezed the trigger twice, sending two suppressed rounds shattering through the thick glass.
Both guards collapsed silently to the expensive hardwood floor with perfect, fatal headshots.
Adrian kicked the shattered glass doors open, stepping into the luxurious penthouse with his rifle raised.
"Clear the perimeter," Adrian ordered the giant mastiff with a sharp whistle.
Titan bounded into the sprawling living room, his sensitive nose tracking the scent of their numerous enemies.
A hidden guard stepped out from behind a marble pillar, aiming a shotgun at Clara's back.
Titan lunged with terrifying speed, tearing the man's throat out before he could even squeeze the heavy trigger.
They moved fluidly through the massive apartment, a perfectly synchronized duo of pure, unadulterated violence.
Clara checked every corner with absolute, military-grade precision, eliminating three more guards in complete silence.
They finally reached the heavy, double oak doors that led to the private executive boardroom.
They could clearly hear the muffled sounds of clinking champagne glasses and celebratory laughter echoing from inside.
Adrian looked at Clara, his dark eyes asking if she was truly ready to cross the point of no return.
May you like
Clara simply nodded, stepping back to give him room.
Adrian raised his heavy combat boot and kicked the oak doors completely off their brass hinges.
