Chapter 9 - The Daughter's Secret

Lily looked up from her captive, her bright blue eyes locking onto Daniel with a completely calm, unbothered expression.

"You took entirely too long to get here, Dad," Lily said, casually adjusting her pink backpack over her shoulder.

Daniel stepped into the light, completely stunned by the sight of his ten-year-old daughter acting like a seasoned mercenary.

"Lily, put the stun gun down and step away from him," Daniel commanded, keeping his own weapon firmly gripped.

Marcus sobbed loudly in the chair, struggling uselessly against the heavy zip-ties securing his wrists and ankles.

"She is a complete psychopath, Daniel, she attacked me the second I put her in my car!" Marcus cried out pathetically.

Lily rolled her eyes and delivered a quick, painful shock to Marcus's shoulder, making the grown man shriek in pain.

"He tried to chloroform me, Dad, so I used the defensive training you taught me last summer," Lily explained proudly.

Daniel slowly walked toward them, realizing that his little girl had always paid incredibly close attention to his secret life.

"You knew what I really do for a living?" Daniel asked, holstering his weapon in sheer disbelief.

Lily smiled, reaching into her pocket and pulling out a small, silver tracking device.

"Mom thinks you are a boring accountant, but accountants don't hide military-grade GPS trackers in their daughter's sneakers," Lily pointed out logically.

Daniel let out a breath he didn't realize he was holding, incredibly proud and terrified of his daughter all at once.

He gently took the stun gun from Lily's hand, pulling her into a tight, desperate hug that grounded his racing heart.

"You did incredibly well, sweetheart, but let me handle the trash from here," Daniel whispered into her hair.

He turned his attention back to Marcus, who was shivering violently in the wooden chair.

"You tried to kidnap my child to force me to unlock the stolen millions," Daniel deduced, grabbing Marcus by the throat.

Marcus gasped for air, his eyes wide with the realization that he was totally entirely out of his league.

"Leo said it was the only way, he said you would burn the money if we didn't have leverage!" Marcus choked out defensively.

Daniel released his grip, looking at the pathetic, broken man who had helped destroy his marriage.

"Leo is currently tied up in my living room, waiting for the federal authorities to arrive," Daniel informed him coldly.

The distant wail of police sirens began to echo through the empty shipping district, signaling the end of the nightmare.

Daniel grabbed his daughter's hand, preparing to walk away and let the justice system bury the criminals forever.

Before they could reach the exit, Marcus managed to spit out a bloodied, desperate final threat.

"You think you won, Daniel, but Leo already sent the offshore codes to the Russian syndicate ten minutes ago!"
