Chapter 10 - The Ghost

The blaring sirens grew louder, flashing red and blue lights painting the dirty windows of the abandoned warehouse.
Daniel didn't even turn around to acknowledge Marcus's desperate, final attempt at a threat.
"The codes Leo sent to the Russians were completely fake, Marcus," Daniel stated calmly, walking toward the exit.
"I altered the master ledger in the black notebook the moment I realized Elena was having an affair."
Marcus slumped forward in his chair, utterly defeated as the heavy warehouse doors burst open and tactical teams flooded the room.
Daniel and Lily walked right past the heavily armed officers, who simply nodded respectfully at the infamous corporate fixer.
Later that night, the authorities formally arrested Marcus and Leo for international fraud, kidnapping, and conspiracy.
Elena was taken into police custody as an accessory, her life of luxury permanently traded for a cold concrete cell.
Sarah provided the federal agents with all the necessary internal documents, ensuring her freedom and financial security for her unborn child.
Daniel and Lily returned to his secondary safe house, a beautiful, quiet cabin hidden deep in the forested mountains.
The horrific chapter of betrayal and violence was finally closed, and Daniel felt truly at peace for the first time in years.
He made hot chocolate for his incredibly brave daughter, tucked her securely into bed, and kissed her forehead goodnight.
He walked into the cozy living room, sitting down in a leather armchair to enjoy the silence of his new, peaceful life.
The morning sun began to rise over the pine trees, signaling a fresh start and a genuinely happy ending.
A sudden, soft knock on the heavy wooden front door shattered the morning tranquility.
Daniel opened the door cautiously, finding no one outside, only a small, unmarked cardboard box resting on the welcome mat.
He brought the box inside, sliced the tape with a pocketknife, and opened the cardboard flaps.
Inside the box was the exact same battered black notebook he had personally burned in the warehouse incinerator just hours ago.

Resting on top of the charred leather cover was a crisp white card with a single sentence written in elegant red ink.
"We know who you really are, Ghost, and we are coming for what you owe us."
