Chapter 8 - The Hostage

The phone slipped slightly in Daniel's grip as the horrific reality of the situation crashed into him.
Marcus wasn't just a desperate, embezzling coward; he was a cornered animal willing to cross the ultimate line.
"Where is he taking her?" Daniel demanded into the phone, his voice vibrating with a lethal, terrifying rage.
His private security chief quickly relayed the GPS coordinates of a deserted warehouse on the edge of the shipping district.
Daniel ended the call and walked over to the unconscious Leo, retrieving his black notebook from the criminal's limp hand.
Elena slowly crawled out from the kitchen, her face streaked with tears and smeared makeup.
"Daniel, please, let me help you, I caused all of this," Elena begged, grabbing at his pant leg in a desperate plea for redemption.
Daniel looked down at her with absolute, unforgiving disgust.
"You didn't cause this, Elena, you were just the pathetic bait they used to try and destroy me," he said coldly.
He instructed Sarah to stay hidden in the fortified panic room beneath the stairs and to call the real authorities when it was safe.
Daniel walked to the hallway closet, pushed a hidden panel, and retrieved a heavy tactical vest and a customized handgun.
He geared up with terrifying efficiency, transforming completely from a betrayed husband into a professional killer.
"If you ever come near me or my daughter again, I will not be so merciful," Daniel warned his wife one final time.
He left Elena sobbing alone in the dark house and sprinted to his armored SUV parked in the garage.
The drive to the shipping district was a blur of rain, neon lights, and the roaring engine of his heavy vehicle.
He pulled up to the abandoned warehouse, cutting his headlights and stepping silently into the freezing night air.
The massive metal building was completely dark, save for a single flickering light near the loading dock.
Daniel moved like a ghost through the shadows, bypassing the rusted perimeter fence with expert precision.
He found a side access door, picked the heavy industrial lock in less than ten seconds, and slipped inside.
The warehouse was filled with empty shipping containers, creating a massive steel maze that echoed with the sound of dripping water.
Daniel drew his weapon, moving silently toward the flickering light at the center of the massive building.
He finally reached the edge of the clearing, expecting to find Marcus holding a terrified ten-year-old girl at gunpoint.
Instead, Daniel froze completely, lowering his weapon in absolute, bewildered shock at the bizarre scene unfolding before him.

Marcus was tied securely to a wooden chair, weeping hysterically with a bloody nose and a bruised eye.
Standing perfectly calm in front of him, holding a massive stun gun directly to Marcus's neck, was Daniel's daughter, Lily.
