Chapter 5 - The Bitter Truth

Griffin pounded his fists against the thick steel walls of the bank vault.
"Victor, you coward, let me out!" Griffin shouted into the darkness.
"You have exactly ten minutes of oxygen left in that room," Victor mocked through the speaker.
Griffin pulled his cell phone from his pocket, using the flashlight to examine the heavy locking mechanism.
He realized Victor had hacked the bank's security system to trap him here.
Griffin quickly dialed his head of cybersecurity, ordering an immediate counter-hack on the bank's mainframe.
The minutes ticked by slowly as the air in the tiny vault grew thin and suffocating.
Griffin refused to die in this room while Sloan and his daughters needed him.
"Sir, I have bypassed the firewall," his security chief announced over the phone.
The heavy steel door suddenly clicked and slowly swung open.
Griffin gasped for fresh air and grabbed the vial of blue liquid from the safety deposit box.
He sprinted back up to the roof and ordered his pilot to fly back to the hospital at maximum speed.
During the flight, Griffin carefully opened the handwritten letter Sloan had left in the box.
The letter contained the horrifying truth about Victor's obsession with Sloan.
Victor had poisoned her slowly over the last month to make it look like a natural illness.
He wanted her out of the way so he could claim the twins and use them to blackmail Griffin.
Griffin's blood boiled with a murderous rage he had never felt before in his life.
The helicopter landed on the hospital roof just as the sun began to rise over Seattle.
Griffin rushed down the stairs, holding the precious vial tightly in his hand.
He burst onto the VIP medical floor, expecting to see his bodyguards protecting the girls.
Instead, his security team was lying unconscious on the floor.
The hospital room was completely empty, and Sloan was missing from her bed.
