Chapter 2 - The Hospital Waiting Room

Griffin immediately ordered his private security team to transport the twins safely to the hospital.

He rode in the back of the ambulance, holding Sloan’s cold hand as the sirens wailed through the city.

When they arrived at Seattle General, he used his massive wealth to secure the entire VIP medical floor.

He demanded the best toxicologists in the country to examine Sloan and find an antidote.

Hours passed while the doctors worked frantically behind closed doors.

Griffin sat in the quiet waiting room with Hazel and Iris.

He ordered them warm food and expensive blankets to keep them comfortable.

Iris sat close to him, studying his face with analytical gray eyes that mirrored his own.

"You really are our dad, aren't you?" Iris asked quietly.

Griffin swallowed hard, feeling a massive wave of regret for the ten years he had missed.

"I didn't know you existed until tonight, but I swear I will never leave you," Griffin promised.

Hazel leaned against his arm, finally feeling safe after the most terrifying night of her life.

Suddenly, the elevator doors at the end of the hallway slid open.

Three men in dark suits marched onto the private medical floor.

They were accompanied by a woman wearing a badge from Child Protective Services.

Griffin stood up immediately, using his tall frame to shield the two little girls.

The lead suit stepped forward, holding a legal document with a smug smile.

"Mr. Drake, you have no legal right to these children," the man stated coldly.

Griffin recognized the man as the head lawyer for his biggest corporate rival, Victor Sterling.

"Sloan's legal husband is demanding immediate custody of his daughters," the lawyer announced.

Griffin froze as he read the name printed on the birth certificates in the lawyer's hand.

The father listed on the legal documents was Victor Sterling.
