Chapter 3 - The Ghost from the Past
Griffin stared at the legal documents in absolute disbelief.
Victor Sterling was a ruthless billionaire who had tried to destroy Griffin's company a decade ago.
The idea that Sloan had married that monster made Griffin's blood boil.
"Sloan is not married to Victor," Griffin growled, stepping dangerously close to the lawyer.
"The state of Washington says otherwise," the lawyer smirked, motioning for the social worker to step forward.
The social worker looked at the twins and asked them to come with her.
Hazel and Iris screamed, clinging tightly to Griffin's expensive suit jacket.
Griffin pulled out his phone and dialed his own legal team, ordering them to the hospital immediately.
"If you try to touch these girls, I will bury you and Victor in endless lawsuits," Griffin threatened.
The lawyer laughed and handed Griffin a second piece of paper.
"Victor isn't just claiming the children," the lawyer sneered.
"He also has a legal medical proxy for his beloved wife."
Griffin read the document, realizing the horrifying truth of the situation.
Victor had the legal power to make all medical decisions for Sloan while she was unconscious.
"He wants her transferred to his private facility immediately," the lawyer demanded.
Griffin knew Victor would let Sloan die the moment she left this hospital.
The doctors stepped out of the emergency room, looking incredibly grim.
"Mr. Drake, we have stabilized her, but she is slipping into a deep coma," the lead doctor reported.
The lawyer pushed past Griffin, waving the medical proxy in the air.
"Prepare the patient for transport to Sterling Medical," the lawyer ordered the hospital staff.
Griffin realized he was completely out of legal options to save the woman he loved.
Then, Iris tugged on Griffin's sleeve and handed him Sloan's unlocked cell phone.
"Mommy left a video for you before she fell asleep," the little girl whispered.

Griffin hit play, and his heart stopped as Sloan's exhausted face appeared on the screen.
"Griffin, if you are watching this, Victor finally found us, and he is going to kill me tonight."
