Chapter 8 - The Tarmac Standoff

The FBI moved with terrifying speed after receiving the private investigator's confession.

Margaret arranged for me to fly down to Florida on a secure federal transport plane to take official custody of Lauren's two children.

We arrived at the humid Miami airstrip just as the sun began to rise over the ocean.

Dozens of federal agents had already surrounded a sleek, white private jet sitting on the tarmac.

Daniel was kneeling on the concrete with his hands behind his head, sobbing openly as agents placed him in handcuffs.

Lauren, however, was refusing to surrender peacefully.

She stood at the top of the airplane stairs, holding her two crying children close to her side.

She clutched a thick manila envelope and screamed that she would destroy my family's legacy if they arrested her.

She claimed the envelope contained absolute proof that my late husband was the original mastermind behind the money laundering syndicate.

The lead FBI agent lowered his weapon slightly, unsure if her wild accusations held any actual weight.

Lauren demanded a safe flight out of the country in exchange for her absolute silence.

I stepped out of the armored vehicle and walked directly toward the base of the airplane stairs.

I looked up at the woman who had tried to destroy my grandson and felt no fear at all.

I told the federal agents to shoot her if she tried to board the plane, because the envelope was completely fake.
