Chapter 7 - The Corrupted Shield

The corrupt police officers slowly closed the distance between us, their weapons aimed steadily at our heads.
I realized that Evelyn Harris had built a massive criminal syndicate that completely infected the entire city.
She had never intended for us to deliver the documents to the shipyard; she wanted us quietly executed in the bank.
I slowly raised my hands into the air, feigning complete and absolute surrender to the armed men.
Elena stood frozen beside me, tears streaming down her pale face as she realized we were completely trapped.
The lead officer stepped forward and aggressively reached into my jacket pocket to retrieve the folded legal documents.
I waited for the exact fraction of a second when his arrogant focus shifted from his weapon to the paperwork.
I grabbed his wrist with my left hand and violently twisted the heavy gun away from my chest.
I drove my right elbow brutally into his throat, causing him to collapse to the marble floor in a choking fit.
The other three officers shouted in pure panic and quickly raised their weapons to fire.
I grabbed the heavy metal safety deposit box from the counter and hurled it directly at the closest officer.
The sharp metal corner struck him squarely in the forehead, knocking him unconscious instantly.
I grabbed the dropped service weapon from the floor and fired two rapid warning shots into the high ceiling.
The remaining two officers dove desperately behind the heavy wooden teller counters for cover.
I grabbed Elena by the arm and sprinted toward the shattered glass doors of the side exit.
We burst out into the rainy alleyway just as a piercing siren began to wail from the main street.
We ran blindly through the narrow alleys, jumping over chain-link fences and navigating the labyrinth of trash dumpsters.
We finally reached the stolen pickup truck and dove inside, locking the doors just as a spotlight swept the area.
I slammed the truck into gear and tore out of the alley, completely ignoring the traffic signals and pedestrians.
We had the documents, but we were now actively being hunted by the corrupt police force as well as the syndicate.
We drove aggressively toward the coastal highway, the dark ocean looming ominously in the distance ahead of us.
The abandoned shipyard was a massive graveyard of rusted cargo containers and decaying maritime equipment.
I parked the truck a mile away from the entrance and decided we needed to proceed entirely on foot.
We crept through the tall weeds, using the rusted metal containers as cover from the elevated sniper towers.
The freezing ocean wind howled endlessly through the skeletal remains of the massive cargo cranes above us.
We finally reached the central warehouse, a cavernous building illuminated by a single flickering halogen light.
I peered through a broken window and saw Emily tied tightly to a wooden chair in the center of the vast empty room.
Standing completely alone in the shadows behind her was Evelyn Harris, holding a sleek and suppressed pistol.
I told Elena to stay hidden while I walked through the front doors to make the official and deadly exchange.
I stepped into the light with my hands raised and the documents held tightly in my closed fist.
Evelyn smiled warmly, an expression completely at odds with the deadly weapon pointed directly at my daughter.
She thanked me for my punctuality and ordered me to slide the papers across the dirty concrete floor.
May you like
I tossed the documents forward, but before she could pick them up, a heavy cargo net dropped directly from the ceiling.
Julian suddenly dropped down from the high rafters, holding a massive hunting knife and screaming in pure rage.
