Chapter 9 - The Broadcast

The massive searchlight from the helicopter blinded everyone on the docks.
The Chief of Police shielded his eyes, looking up in absolute confusion.
This was not one of his police helicopters.
It was a federal FBI chopper, heavily armed and broadcasting a siren.
While hiding in the subway, I had set my laptop to automatically upload the microchip files.
The video of the Chief plotting the murder was sent to every major news network and federal agency.
The entire world now knew exactly who the real criminals were.
The Chief dropped his shotgun, realizing his career and life were completely over.
Federal agents swarmed the docks, throwing the corrupt officers to the ground.
I did not stick around to watch the arrests happen.
I ran as fast as I could back to the rusted shipping container where I left the children.
I unlocked the heavy doors and pulled Leo and Maya into a desperate, crushing hug.
Leo's fever was still dangerously high, but he managed to smile at me.
I carried them toward the arriving paramedics, finally feeling a sense of relief.
My loyal men, the ones who had not betrayed me, arrived in armored vehicles.
They had dealt with Victor and reclaimed the streets while I protected the children.
The war was finally over, and we had actually survived.
I rode in the back of the ambulance, holding Leo's hand tightly.

I promised him that nobody would ever hurt them again.
The paramedics successfully stabilized his fever and began treating his leg.
