I did not answer the mechanical voice on the phone.
I crushed the plastic device in my hand until it shattered into pieces.
Rebecca was not just an abusive stepmother.
She was taking orders from someone who wanted my entire bloodline erased.
I ordered Marcus to burn the house to the ground and find Rebecca immediately.
My only priority was getting back to the hospital to protect Leo and Maya.
I pushed my car to its absolute limits on the highway.
When I reached the pediatric floor, the hallway was completely empty.
The four armed men I had left outside the consultation room were gone.
Panic gripped my chest like a vice.
I drew my weapon and kicked the hospital room door open.
Leo was clutching Maya on the hospital bed, his eyes wide with absolute terror.
A woman in a nurse's uniform was standing over them with a syringe.
She froze when she saw the gun pointed directly at her head.
I demanded to know where my men were.
She smiled coldly and dropped the syringe onto the floor.
She said my men had been reassigned by the new boss of the family.
I realized with horror that my own syndicate had turned against me.
The woman reached into her pocket for a weapon.
