Chapter 8 - The Lethal Dose

The heavy metal door of the maintenance office swung open with a loud screech.

Officer Vance marched out into the loading dock, aggressively shoving Marcus forward.

Marcus was bleeding from a severe cut on his forehead, and his hands were zip-tied behind his back.

"He was trying to use the old landline to call the feds," Vance reported with a nasty sneer.

Daniel turned his gun away from me and aimed it directly at Marcus's head.

"This is your final warning, Dr. Jenkins," Daniel said coldly.

"Give me the memory card, or your brave nurse dies right now."

I slowly reached into the deep pocket of my blue hospital scrubs, pretending to search for the tiny card.

My fingers brushed past the plastic casing, searching for something else I had taken from the trauma room.

I wrapped my hand around a pre-filled syringe of highly concentrated epinephrine used for cardiac arrests.

I pulled my hand out quickly and took a sudden, aggressive step toward Officer Vance.

Before the corrupt cop could react, I slammed the thick needle directly into his thigh and pushed the plunger.

Vance screamed in shock as the massive, lethal dose of adrenaline flooded his system instantly.

His heart immediately went into severe ventricular fibrillation, causing his body to violently seize.

As Vance collapsed to the concrete floor, his finger reflexively clamped down on the trigger of his service weapon.

The gun fired a wild shot into the ceiling, striking a highly pressurized industrial steam pipe.

A deafening hiss completely overwhelmed the room as scalding white steam violently erupted into the air.
