Chapter 4 - The IT Room

My hands trembled violently as I read the terrifying note again.
Emily was not just an abused wife; she was a desperate whistleblower trying to expose a massive conspiracy.
I knew I could not trust anyone in the hospital administration after reading that warning.
I tucked the SD card into my scrub pocket and hurried down the hallway to find Marcus.
Marcus was not just an emergency nurse; he was a former military tech specialist who knew everything about computers.
I found him bandaging a minor cut in the breakroom and pulled him into an empty supply closet.
I quickly explained the horrifying situation and handed him the tiny memory card.
"We need an offline computer that is not connected to the hospital's main server," Marcus whispered.
He pulled a personal, encrypted laptop from his backpack and inserted the card.
A massive folder of financial documents and disturbing photographs filled the glowing screen.
The files detailed a massive illegal organ trafficking syndicate run entirely through Daniel's investment firm.
The photographs showed three other women with identical broken arms, all used as human mules to transport encrypted ledgers.
Marcus began to trace the offshore bank accounts receiving the illicit funds.
He gasped out loud and pointed at the screen with a shaking finger.
"Sarah, look at the name on this primary account," he said in shock.
The account belonged directly to Dr. Aris Thorne, the chief of medicine at our very own hospital.

Before we could even process this massive betrayal, Marcus's laptop screen suddenly went completely black.
A flashing red message appeared on the screen, reading, "Unauthorized access detected, initiating facility lockdown."
