Chapter 17 - The Ghost of Erebus

Arthur stood up slowly, keeping the weapon leveled perfectly at the center of my chest.

He looked exactly as I remembered him, impeccably dressed, with silver hair and cold, calculating gray eyes.

"The Erebus network keeps this country safe, Sarah," Arthur justified arrogantly, pacing across the expensive rug.

"We fund the black operations Congress is too cowardly to authorize. Your father wanted to destroy our only line of defense."

"My father wanted to stop a tyrant from using federal badges to run a global cartel," I fired back, refusing to break eye contact.

Arthur chuckled, shaking his head as if he were simply disappointed in a naive child.

"It doesn't matter what he wanted. He died screaming in burning wreckage, and tonight, you will join him."

Arthur’s finger tightened on the trigger, preparing to end my life without a single shred of remorse.

Suddenly, a massive, heavy bronze lamp violently shattered directly against the side of Arthur’s head.

My mother had climbed the balcony grappling line behind me and swung the heavy antique weapon with absolute, devastating force.

Arthur grunted in pain, stumbling sideways as his suppressed pistol fired wildly into the ceiling.

I lunged forward, tackling the Deputy Director of the FBI brutally to the hardwood floor.

We wrestled desperately for the weapon, his brutal strength matching my desperate, adrenaline-fueled rage.

He managed to press the barrel of the gun directly under my chin, his eyes wide with murderous intent.

I let go of the weapon entirely, drawing the tactical combat knife from my boot in one fluid, lightning-fast motion.

I drove the steel blade deeply into his shoulder, pinning his arm completely to the heavy wooden floorboards.

Arthur screamed in pure agony, dropping the firearm as his blood pooled onto the expensive rug.

I kicked the gun across the room and stood over him, my chest heaving as I looked down at the architect of my family's destruction.

May you like

"I need your retinal scan and your voice, Arthur," I demanded coldly, grabbing him roughly by the collar.

"Or I am going to let my mother use that bronze lamp to finish the job."
