Chapter 3 - The Burned Attorney

The sheer terror of seeing that syringe finally snapped me out of my paralyzed state.

I forced my burning body upward, slamming my good shoulder into Samuel’s chest with all the strength I had left.

The syringe flew from his grip and shattered against the sterile hospital floor.

"She is awake!" Joyce shrieked, backing away toward the door in absolute horror.

I grabbed the emergency call button and pressed it repeatedly until the alarms echoed down the corridor.

Samuel lunged forward to silence the alarm, but the door burst open before he could reach me.

Hospital security guards rushed into the room with Cynthia right behind them.

"Get away from my patient right now!" Cynthia yelled, pointing a defensive finger at Samuel.

Samuel instantly raised his hands in surrender, acting as though I had just suffered a violent seizure.

"She is delirious from the pain medication and tried to pull out her IV," Samuel lied smoothly.

Cynthia ignored his lies and ordered the guards to move me to a secure, locked ward immediately.

As I was wheeled down the hallway, Cynthia quietly slipped a small burner phone under my blankets.

Once I was safely locked inside the VIP recovery suite, I dialed the secret number for my trustee in Phoenix.

The phone rang four times before Thomas, my trusted financial advisor, finally answered.

"Victoria, thank God you are alive," Thomas whispered frantically.

Before I could ask him what was wrong, he delivered a devastating blow.

"Samuel bypassed the vault security thirty minutes ago, and the original trust documents are gone," Thomas confessed.
