Chapter 8 - The Hidden Weapon

The corrupt judge looked at me with absolute contempt as I stepped out of the elevator in handcuffs.
"You are too late, the default judgment has already been formally entered into the record," Mom smiled victoriously.
I looked at the police officer who had escorted us, begging him to intervene and stop this massive miscarriage of justice.
The officer looked down at the floor, clearly intimidated by the judge's presence.
Mom stepped forward and reached out to grab Grandma by her injured wrist.
"Come along, Mother, the psychiatric transport van is waiting downstairs for you," Mom sneered softly.
Grandma did not flinch, but instead stood perfectly straight and looked Mom directly in the eyes.
"You are a pathetic, greedy monster, and you will never see a single penny of my money," Grandma stated firmly.
Mom's polite facade completely shattered into a million pieces of uncontrollable rage.
She reached into her designer handbag and pulled out a small, black handgun.
She pointed the weapon directly at my chest, completely ignoring the stunned police officer standing next to me.
"If you do not sign the secondary trust release right now, I will shoot her dead," Mom screamed at Grandma.
Grandma stepped bravely in front of me, shielding my body with her own frail frame.
"You will have to shoot your own mother first," Grandma challenged her fiercely.
Mom's finger tightened on the trigger, her eyes wild with pure desperation and madness.

I lowered my shoulder and violently tackled Mom to the hard marble floor before she could fire.
The gun went off with a deafening crack, firing a bullet harmlessly into the ornate ceiling tiles.
