Chapter 8 - The Betrayal Inside

I backed away slowly, my heart hammering violently against my ribs as Diego advanced.
Victoria walked over and casually closed the heavy velvet curtains, ensuring no one outside could see into the room.
"Make it look like a botched robbery, Diego," Richard instructed his son with chilling calmness.
I looked frantically around the massive living room, desperately searching for anything I could use to defend myself.
Diego swung the heavy iron poker directly at my head with terrifying speed.
I dove to the floor, rolling across the expensive Persian rug just as the iron smashed into a glass coffee table.
Shards of glass exploded everywhere, cutting into my arms and tearing my clothes.
Diego cursed loudly and raised the heavy weapon high above his head for a second, fatal strike.
Suddenly, a heavy crystal vase shattered violently against the back of Diego's skull.
He dropped the iron poker and collapsed onto the floor, groaning in absolute agony.
I looked up and saw Natalie standing there, her hands shaking as she held the broken base of the vase.
"I am so tired of this evil family," Natalie screamed at Richard and Victoria.
Richard charged at Natalie, his face contorted in pure, uncontrolled rage.
Natalie didn't hesitate; she grabbed the heavy iron poker from the floor and swung it wildly to keep him back.
I used the chaotic distraction to scramble toward the signal jammer resting on the side table.
I grabbed the black device and smashed it repeatedly against the brick fireplace until it broke into pieces.
The green light flickered and died, instantly restoring the radio frequencies in the room.
I frantically pressed the hidden panic button in my pocket over and over again.

Victoria lunged at me with her manicured claws, trying to scratch my eyes out in a desperate panic.
Before she could reach me, the massive front doors of the mansion were violently kicked completely off their hinges.
