Chapter 6 - The Federal Sting

The FBI agent sitting across from me listened to my entire story without interrupting once.
Agent Miller reviewed the dash-camera footage, the forged property deed, and the fraudulent life insurance policy.
He explained that because the family was using wire transfers across state lines to manage their debt, this was a federal case.
"We have enough to arrest Chloe for the notary fraud, but Diego and Richard will just hire expensive lawyers and blame her," he said.
To take down the entire corrupt family, the FBI needed undeniable audio proof that they orchestrated the forgery and the insurance scam.
Agent Miller slid a small, incredibly thin recording device across the metal table.
He told me they needed me to wear a hidden wire and get Diego to confess to the entire conspiracy on tape.
It was the most terrifying proposition I had ever heard in my entire life.
Diego was out on bail, currently staying at the cherry Hills mansion with his parents.
If they discovered I was wearing a wire, I would be trapped inside a massive house with people who actively wanted me dead.
But I thought about my beautiful apartment, my hard work, and the sheer audacity of their entitlement.
I nodded my head, accepting the dangerous mission without a second thought.
The technical team taped the microphone securely beneath my blouse and gave me a panic button disguised as a car key.
I drove up the long, winding driveway of the Cherry Hills estate just as the sun began to set.
I took a deep breath, stepped out of my car, and knocked firmly on the heavy oak door.
Richard opened the door, a cruel, victorious smile spreading across his face as he invited me inside.
"I knew you would finally come crawling back to negotiate," my father-in-law sneered.

I walked into the dimly lit living room, but the front door suddenly slammed shut behind me.
I heard the distinct, heavy sound of a metal deadbolt locking me inside the mansion.
