Chapter 4 - The Forged Deed

"What are you doing in my home?" I demanded, my voice shaking with a mixture of exhaustion and rage.
Victoria leaned casually against the doorframe of my apartment, acting as though she owned the entire building.
She proudly held up a thick stack of official legal documents stamped with a golden notary seal.
"It is my home now, Valerie," she said with a chillingly sweet tone.
She shoved a notarized deed of transfer directly into my face.
The document clearly showed my signature at the bottom, legally signing the apartment over to Victoria's holding company.
I stared at the paper in absolute shock, knowing with absolute certainty that I had never signed such a document.
"This is a blatant forgery, and you know it," I stated, pulling my phone out to call the police again.
Victoria laughed softly, stepping back and beginning to close the heavy wooden door.
She told me that the police would consider this a civil property dispute and that they couldn't legally force her to leave.
She was right about the law, and I was temporarily locked out of the sanctuary I had worked so hard to build.
I spent the night in a nearby hotel, staring at a high-resolution photograph of the forged document I had managed to snap.
I zoomed in on the official notary stamp at the bottom of the page, looking for any clue.
The notary's printed name was Chloe Evans, and her license number was clearly visible.
I spent hours running deep background checks on the internet using the resources from my architecture firm.
I finally found a social media profile belonging to Chloe Evans, a young woman living in the suburbs.
But what I found on her profile made my blood run completely cold.

Chloe wasn't just a corrupt notary public looking to make some quick cash.
Her profile picture was a romantic, smiling selfie of her and my husband, Diego, kissing on a beach in Mexico.
