Chapter 7 - The Jammer

Diego was sitting in a leather armchair by the fireplace, drinking heavily from a crystal glass.
Victoria was standing near the grand staircase, watching me with eyes full of pure venom.
"I want my apartment back, and I want a quiet divorce," I said, reciting the script the FBI had given me.
Diego laughed out loud, standing up and stumbling slightly as he walked toward me.
I intentionally pushed his buttons, mocking his fake wealth and his pathetic reliance on his parents.
"You had to forge my signature with your cheap mistress because you aren't man enough to buy your own property!" I shouted.
His face turned bright red, his massive ego completely unable to handle the insult.
"I forged that deed, and I took out that insurance policy because you owe this family everything!" Diego screamed back.
He bragged in explicit detail about how he planned the entire scheme with his father to save their sinking empire.
It was exactly the confession Agent Miller needed to put them all in federal prison for decades.
I slowly reached into my pocket, ready to press the panic button to signal the tactical team waiting outside.
Before I could press it, Richard reached into his suit jacket and pulled out a small black device with an antenna.
He pressed a button on the side, and a green light began flashing aggressively.
"Did you really think I built a billion-dollar company without learning how to spot a rat?" Richard asked coldly.
He explained that the device was a military-grade signal jammer that completely blocked all radio and cellular frequencies.
The FBI agents parked down the street could no longer hear my audio feed, nor could they receive my panic signal.
I was entirely cut off from the outside world, completely alone with three desperate criminals.

Diego reached over to the fireplace and picked up a heavy, solid iron poker.
"You should have just given us the apartment," my husband whispered as he raised the weapon.
