Chapter 7 - The Hostage

The sight of the deadly weapon caused sheer panic to erupt inside the dining room.

Aunt Patricia screamed hysterically and scrambled backward until her back hit the wall.

My mother collapsed onto the floor, clutching her chest as she hyperventilated in pure terror.

Lily woke up from the sudden noise and began to cry loudly, sensing the overwhelming fear in my body.

I held my daughter as tightly as I could, turning my body to shield her from the barrel of the gun.

Uncle Robert waved the weapon erratically, ordering everyone to hand over their cell phones immediately.

Grandma Margaret stepped directly in front of the gun, her posture perfectly straight and her chin held high.

She refused to show a single ounce of fear to the monster she had raised.

She calmly told Robert that shooting her would not erase the digital evidence sitting on the lawyer's laptop.

While Robert was distracted by my grandmother's defiance, Clara made a very subtle movement with her left hand.

The sharp attorney quietly reached under her suit jacket and pressed a silent emergency alarm hidden on her smartwatch.

Robert noticed the slight movement and immediately swung the gun toward Clara in a fit of rage.

He grabbed Aunt Patricia by the hair, violently pulling her up from the floor to use as a human shield.

He then turned the weapon away from the lawyers and aimed it directly at my face.

Before he could pull the trigger, a loud, deafening gunshot shattered the large glass window of the dining room.
