Chapter 7 - The Interrogation

The men in the ski masks threw me onto the cold metal floor of the moving van and zip-tied my wrists together.

I kicked and screamed, fighting with every ounce of strength I had left in my exhausted body.

One of the men pulled off his dark mask, revealing the smug, arrogant face of my brother.

He laughed maliciously and told me that my desperate little run was officially over.

He reached into my jacket pocket and easily confiscated the flash drive containing his digital manifesto.

My heart sank into my stomach as he crushed the tiny plastic drive under the heavy heel of his boot.

He told me that he had already scrubbed his home network, making that drive the only copy of his confession.

I was now completely devoid of any evidence to prove my innocence or expose their massive conspiracy.

The van drove for nearly an hour before finally coming to a stop in a dark, isolated location.

My brother dragged me out of the vehicle and into a massive, abandoned warehouse near the shipping docks.

My sister was waiting inside, sitting perfectly relaxed on a wooden crate while sipping a cup of hot coffee.

She smiled sweetly at me and apologized for how complicated things had become since our family dinner.

She explained that our parents had just officially passed away in the hospital ten minutes ago.

Because I was the prime suspect in their murder, I was legally disqualified from inheriting any of their massive estate.

My siblings were now the sole beneficiaries of nearly four million dollars in real estate and life insurance.

They only needed to dispose of me permanently to ensure nobody ever questioned their perfect narrative.

My brother pulled a heavy steel crowbar from a toolbag and walked slowly toward me.

He promised to make my death look like a tragic, guilt-ridden suicide by tossing me off the warehouse roof.

I closed my eyes and braced myself for the agonizing pain of the cold metal weapon.

Suddenly, the deafening sound of a high-powered sniper rifle echoed through the hollow warehouse.

The heavy steel crowbar was violently violently ripped from my brother's hands by the invisible bullet.
