Chapter 2 - The Stolen Security

I stared at the glowing screen of my phone in absolute disbelief.

My parents had remained on my primary savings account since I opened it in college.

I had never bothered to remove them because I foolishly trusted my own flesh and blood.

They had electronically transferred eighty thousand dollars to an unknown external account.

I immediately dialed the emergency fraud hotline on the back of my debit card.

The automated voice felt incredibly slow as I navigated the endless security menus.

A representative finally answered and I desperately explained that my money had been stolen.

The representative placed me on a brief hold that felt like an absolute eternity.

She returned to the line and said the transfer was legally authorized because my father was a joint account holder.

She explained that there was absolutely nothing the bank could do to reverse the transaction.

I hung up the phone and screamed into the steering wheel of my new car.

They had planned to take my car, but the money was their brutal backup plan.

My sister's fake divorce was nothing more than an elaborate financial scam to steal my wealth.

I put the car in drive and headed toward the local police station to file a theft report.

The night air was freezing, but my body felt hot with an unfamiliar, vengeful rage.

I pulled into the police precinct parking lot and walked into the quiet lobby.

I approached the front desk and told the desk sergeant that my family had just robbed me.

He handed me a clipboard and told me to write down exactly what happened.

I filled out the forms meticulously, documenting the stolen funds and the attempted car theft.

The sergeant took the clipboard back and began typing the information into his computer terminal.

He suddenly stopped typing and looked at me with a deeply suspicious glare.

He asked me to confirm my full name and my date of birth.

I repeated my information clearly, confused by his sudden change in demeanor.

He stepped away from the desk and signaled for two armed officers to approach me.

The officers grabbed my arms forcefully and twisted them behind my back.

I cried out in pain and demanded to know what was happening.

The sergeant calmly stated that there was a massive warrant out for my arrest.

My brother had reported me for grand larceny and elder abuse an hour ago.
