Chapter 9 - The House of Cards

"You cannot shoot all of us before we shoot you," the mercenary stated confidently.

I knew he was entirely right, but I was fully prepared to die trying.

Just as his men took a heavy step toward the basement door, the entire house suddenly vibrated violently.

The deafening, rhythmic sound of heavy helicopter blades completely drowned out the howling blizzard outside.

Bright, blinding searchlights pierced through the shattered front windows, illuminating the living room like daylight.

"Federal authorities, drop your weapons immediately!" a voice boomed loudly through a massive megaphone.

The mercenaries panicked and wildly aimed their rifles toward the bright lights.

Before they could even fire a single shot, the glass windows completely shattered inward.

A dozen men dressed in black tactical armor swung into the room on heavy ropes.

My head of security, Marcus, landed gracefully in the center of the room with his weapon drawn.

The brief firefight lasted less than ten seconds before all six mercenaries were brutally pinned to the floor.

I dropped my handgun and collapsed heavily onto my knees, gasping for breath.

Marcus rushed over and helped me carefully back to my feet.

"Are you and the children safe, boss?" Marcus asked with deep concern.

"We are safe, Marcus, thank you for finding us so fast," I cried softly.

Federal agents swarmed the house, securing the prisoners and clearing the dangerous perimeter.

I ran as fast as I could back down the stairs into the dark basement.

My four beautiful children ran into my arms, crying and holding onto me tightly.

"The bad men are gone, my darlings, we are completely safe now," I promised them.

Two strong federal agents marched down the stairs and forcefully picked up Daniel's tied body.

He struggled weakly as they carried him up the stairs to face his massive crimes.

I carried Olivia in my arms and walked proudly back up into the destroyed living room.

Daniel was staring at me with pure hatred as they clamped heavy iron handcuffs onto his wrists.

"You think you have won, Kesha, but you have no idea what is actually coming," Daniel laughed psychotically.
