Chapter 10 - The Christmas Miracle

"Take this absolute garbage out of my sight," I ordered the agents coldly.
They dragged Daniel out into the freezing snow and threw him into the back of a heavily armored vehicle.
The massive blizzard finally began to break, revealing a stunningly clear and peaceful night sky.
Marcus arranged for a safe, military-grade transport helicopter to take us all away from the nightmare.
I looked at Chloe and Margaret, who were both shivering and completely traumatized by the night's events.
"You both saved my children today, and I will never forget that," I told them sincerely.
I offered them a safe place on the helicopter, and they gratefully accepted my protection.
We flew comfortably back to my massive, secure estate in downtown Austin, Texas.
When Christmas morning officially arrived, my house was filled with warmth, safety, and pure joy.
The children tore excitedly into their massive pile of expensive presents by the fireplace.
Margaret sat quietly in a corner, watching her grandchildren with tears of genuine happiness.
Chloe was happily helping the chef prepare a massive, luxurious holiday feast in the kitchen.
Daniel was currently sitting in a freezing federal holding cell facing life in prison without parole.
The core conflict of my past had finally been entirely destroyed, and my family was completely safe forever.
I kissed each of my children and walked quietly upstairs to my private office to lock away the legal documents.
I opened my heavy steel safe and reached inside to place the court papers on the top shelf.
My hand brushed against a strange, unmarked black gift box that definitely had not been there yesterday.
I slowly untied the silk ribbon and lifted the heavy lid.
Inside rested a faded medical file from the fertility clinic I visited eight years ago.

A handwritten note was attached firmly to the top of the confidential documents.
It read: Daniel was completely sterile since childhood, so who do you think actually fathered your children?
