Chapter 2 - The Fallen Ring

Chloe dropped the legal papers onto the floor as if they had suddenly caught fire.
"You are an absolute monster, Daniel," she cried out with tears streaming down her flawless face.
She turned around and sprinted out the front door, leaving the diamond ring abandoned on the floor.
Daniel did not even flinch or try to run after the woman he was about to marry.
Instead, he slowly walked closer to me and his four children.
Noah bravely stepped in front of his sisters to protect them.
"Do not take another step toward my family," I warned him, my voice completely devoid of any warmth.
Daniel stopped and crossed his arms over his expensive cashmere sweater.
His mother finally found her voice and rushed forward.
"Daniel, I can explain everything to you," Margaret cried, grabbing her son by his sleeve.
Daniel shoved his mother's hand away with a look of pure disgust.
"Explain what, Mother?" he demanded coldly.
"Explain that I secretly intercepted all of her hospital bills and letters eight years ago," Margaret sobbed loudly.
The entire room gasped as the ugly truth finally spilled out into the open.
Margaret had deliberately hidden my attempts to contact Daniel so he could freely divorce me.
"I just wanted you to marry a woman from a proper, wealthy family," Margaret confessed through her tears.
I expected Daniel to be furious with his mother for stealing his chance at fatherhood.
Instead, he threw his head back and laughed a cold, heartless laugh.
"Well, it looks like she is incredibly wealthy now, Mother," Daniel said while eyeing my expensive jewelry.
He looked back at me with a terrifying greed burning in his eyes.
"My current company just filed for secret bankruptcy this morning," Daniel revealed casually.
"But my grandfather's massive trust fund unlocks immediately if I can prove I have a legitimate blood heir."
My blood instantly ran cold as I realized the horrible mistake I had made by bringing them here.

"You will never get anywhere near my children," I promised him fiercely.
"I do not need all four of them," Daniel smiled as he suddenly pulled a heavy silver handgun from his jacket.
