Chapter 8 - The Courtroom Ambush

I accepted the video call, and Damian's furious face filled the screen.

"I know you are in Arthur's office, Amelia, but you are far too late," Damian sneered triumphantly.

He panned the camera around to show a massive, crowded press room filled with hundreds of reporters.

"My mother and I are about to address the nation and announce a massive cash reward for your capture," he bragged.

I looked directly into the camera with an icy, fearless glare.

"You should probably check who is standing behind you, Damian," I replied calmly before disconnecting the call.

Alexander and I left Arthur cowering in his office and sprinted down the back stairwell to the main press briefing room.

We pushed through the heavy double doors just as Constance began weeping fake tears at the podium.

"My innocent daughter-in-law has suffered a psychotic break, and we just want our baby back," Constance lied beautifully to the flashing cameras.

"That is a very compelling story, Constance," I yelled loudly, my voice echoing across the silent room.

Every single camera violently pivoted away from the podium and pointed directly at me and Alexander.

Gasps of shock rippled through the crowd of journalists as they recognized the supposedly dead elder brother.

"My name is Amelia Sutton, and I have just uploaded undeniable proof of massive corporate fraud, attempted murder, and medical forgery to the Department of Justice," I announced loudly.

Constance gripped the edges of the wooden podium so tightly her knuckles turned entirely white.

Damian stared at Alexander as if he had just seen a terrifying demon rise from hell.

"You are supposed to be dead," Damian screamed hysterically, completely losing his carefully crafted public composure.

I walked down the center aisle, holding my baby proudly for all the world to see.

"He survived, Damian, and your fake empire is officially over," I declared.

Damian let out a primal scream of absolute rage and plunged his hand into his tailored suit jacket.

He ripped a heavy, silver handgun from his holster and pointed it directly at my chest on live national television.
