Chapter 6 - The Federal Gambit

Every news station in the country was now broadcasting my face alongside the word "Kidnapper."
"We can't just hide anymore; we are officially federal fugitives," I said while staring at the television.
Alexander packed a heavy duffel bag with weapons, hard drives, and cash.
"The local police will shoot us on sight just to collect the bounty Constance secretly offered," he warned.
"Then we skip the local authorities entirely and take the fight directly to the top," I decided firmly.
I used the encrypted satellite phone to call the direct line of the United States Attorney’s Office in Omaha.
I demanded a private, face-to-face surrender with the Chief Federal Prosecutor.
I promised to hand over the most massive corporate fraud case in Nebraska's history in exchange for immunity.
Three hours later, Alexander and I walked into the imposing federal courthouse wearing heavy disguises.
We passed through the metal detectors by showing fake credentials Alexander had acquired over the years.
We took the elevator to the top floor and approached the heavy oak doors of the Chief Prosecutor's private office.
I pushed the door open, holding my baby tightly against my chest while Alexander carried the evidence.
The large leather chair behind the mahogany desk slowly swiveled around to face us.
A cruel, familiar smirk spread across the face of the man sitting there.
It was Arthur Vance, Constance Prescott's newly acquired fourth husband and Damian's most ruthless legal fixer.
"I told Constance you were stupid enough to walk right into a trap," Arthur laughed mockingly.

He casually pressed a hidden button underneath his desk.
"The FBI building is currently in lockdown, and my private security team is on the way up to dispose of you."
