Chapter 7 - The Inside Man

Arthur Vance stood up and casually adjusted his expensive silk tie.

"I am going to take that child, toss both of you out of a window, and rule it a tragic murder-suicide," he stated coldly.

Alexander tensed his muscles, fully preparing to rush the desk and snap the corrupt prosecutor's neck.

"Don't do it, Alexander," I commanded softly, keeping my posture entirely relaxed.

I calmly reached into my coat pocket and pulled out my cell phone, turning the screen so Arthur could see it.

"Did you honestly think a seasoned corporate analyst would walk into a federal building without an insurance policy?" I asked.

The screen displayed a live broadcasting application actively streaming audio and video to over fifty different investigative journalists nationwide.

Arthur's smug expression instantly vanished, replaced by a pale mask of sheer terror.

"You just confessed to a conspiracy to commit murder on a live, uncrackable broadcast, Arthur," I informed him.

He frantically lunged for his computer to try and jam the signal, but it was already too late.

"If you don't grant us full access to the federal mainframe right now, I will ensure you spend the rest of your life in a maximum-security prison," I threatened.

Arthur trembled violently, slowly stepping away from his desk and raising his hands in defeat.

Alexander immediately sat down at the terminal and plugged our massive hard drives into the federal network.

He uploaded the mountains of evidence directly to the Department of Justice headquarters in Washington, bypassing the corrupt local office entirely.

While he worked, I scrolled through Arthur's private, encrypted files searching for anything useful.

I stumbled upon a heavily guarded medical document dated thirty-two years ago.

My eyes widened as I read the authentic DNA test results hidden inside the file.

"Constance isn't Damian's biological mother," I whispered in shock.

Damian was the product of an affair between the late Prescott patriarch and a nameless maid.

Constance had faked her second pregnancy and adopted Damian to ensure she maintained control over her husband's sprawling empire.

Before I could show the document to Alexander, my cell phone abruptly rang with an incoming video call.

The caller ID displayed Damian's personal number.
