Chapter 5 - The Fountain Pen

I stared at the thick stack of legal papers that would effectively sign away everything I had ever worked for.
I looked at my daughter, whose innocent eyes were completely wide with sheer, paralyzing terror.
I knew that signing these documents would not actually save our lives.
Once they had my signature, we would become completely disposable to them.
I slowly reached out and picked up the heavy, gold-plated fountain pen from the desk.
My mind raced desperately, searching for any possible way to disrupt their flawless plan.
I noticed that the expensive pen was slightly damaged, with dark blue ink pooling subtly near the metal tip.
"Make it quick, Daniel, because our guests are waiting for the ceremony to begin," Amanda demanded impatiently.
I intentionally let my hand tremble violently, pretending to be completely overcome with fear and adrenaline.
I brought the pen down toward the signature line, hovering just an inch above the pristine white paper.
Instead of writing my name, I pressed the damaged tip of the pen violently into the desk and snapped the ink cartridge.
A massive, dark blue puddle of ink exploded directly across the signature page, completely ruining the legal document.
"What the hell are you doing?!" Mister Vance screamed, desperately trying to salvage the soaked paperwork.
Greg was distracted for a fraction of a second, lowering the pistol slightly as he looked at the ruined documents.
I used the tiny opening to throw a heavy brass paperweight directly into Greg's face.
The heavy metal struck him squarely in the nose with a sickening crunch.
Greg yelled in agonizing pain, dropping his weapon and stumbling backward into the bookshelves.
Amanda shrieked in absolute fury and lunged violently across the room toward Sophie.

Before I could intercept her, Amanda grabbed my daughter by the hair and dragged her forcefully toward the open balcony doors.
The balcony overlooked a jagged, rocky decorative courtyard located a terrifying fifty feet below.
