Chapter 2 - The Dealership Trap

I arrived at Arthur's high-rise office building just as the storm broke.
His massive mahogany desk was completely covered in legal documents and thick bank statements.
Arthur poured me a cup of hot coffee and handed me a heavy red file.
"Your Aunt Evelyn always knew your parents were greedy parasites," he said flatly.
"She placed that forty-two thousand dollars in an account with your name, but under my firm's federal tax ID."
I sipped the coffee, feeling the comforting warmth finally return to my freezing fingers.
"So when Liam transferred the money to his personal account, he robbed a law firm," I realized out loud.
"Exactly," Arthur smiled like a predator watching its prey step blindly into a snare.
"And we have already notified the FBI about the massive financial breach."
Across town, the morning sun was just beginning to rise over the luxury car dealership.
Liam walked into the pristine showroom with Brittany clinging to his arm like a cheap accessory.
He loudly demanded to see the most expensive sports car on the entire lot.
The salesman eagerly drafted the paperwork for a brand new ninety-thousand-dollar vehicle.
Liam arrogantly handed over his debit card to process the stolen forty-two thousand dollars as a massive down payment.
The salesman swiped the card and waited for the computer system to approve the transaction.
Instead, the computer screen flashed a bright, blinding red warning.
"Sir, there seems to be a federal hold on your account," the salesman frowned.
"Run it again, the money is definitely there," Liam snapped impatiently.
Before the salesman could swipe the card a second time, the heavy glass doors of the dealership shattered inward.
A team of heavily armed federal agents stormed aggressively into the showroom.
"Liam Davis, put your hands on the hood of the car immediately!" the lead agent roared.
Liam turned pale white, his arrogant smirk instantly melting into absolute terror.
Brittany screamed and backed away as the agents slammed Liam forcefully against the expensive sports car.
The cold steel handcuffs clicked tightly and painfully around his wrists.
"What is going on, I have the money!" Liam cried out pathetically.
The federal agent leaned in close to Liam's ear.
"That money belongs to the Vance Corporate Trust, and you are under arrest for grand larceny."
Liam looked desperately at Brittany for help.
May you like
But Brittany was already slowly backing toward the emergency exit.
And she was holding the keys to Liam's apartment tightly in her hand.
