Chapter 7 - The Corrupted Oath

I ignored the chaotic screams echoing from the parking garage and ran directly toward the main stairwell.
I took the stairs three at a time, my lungs burning with exhaustion as I finally reached the surgical floor.
I burst through the sterile double doors, frantically demanding to know where the head surgeon had gone.
A terrified, young surgical tech pointed a shaking finger toward the biohazard disposal room at the very end of the long corridor.
I ran down the hall and kicked the heavy wooden door completely off its hinges.
The surgeon was standing near a massive medical incinerator, holding the real, precious glass vials directly over the open flames.
He looked up with wide, panicked eyes, claiming that David had wired ten million dollars to his offshore account to destroy the samples.
I pleaded with him desperately, begging him to remember his sacred medical oath to save innocent lives.
The surgeon hesitated, looking down at the glowing vials trembling in his gloved hands.
Suddenly, the overhead hospital lights flickered wildly and the entire building plunged into absolute, pitch-black darkness.

David had obviously managed to wake up and cut the main power grid from the parking garage control box.
In the terrifying darkness of the small room, I heard the horrific, metallic screech of the incinerator hatch sliding wide open.
