Chapter 3 - The Basement Trap

I stared at the security monitor, unable to comprehend the massive betrayal unfolding right in front of my eyes.

David had always been so incredibly supportive, but suddenly his recent actions made a sick, twisted kind of sense.

Just last week, he had aggressively convinced me to sign a legal document granting him full power of attorney over my multimillion-dollar software company.

He must have secretly discovered my fatal diagnosis and realized that Rosie’s twins were a direct threat to his massive inheritance.

Ben pulled out his cell phone, his hands shaking with pure rage as he dialed the police.

Suddenly, my own phone buzzed loudly in my pocket with a new text message.

The message was from David, and the words sent a chilling shiver down my spine.

He ordered me to come down to the hospital’s subterranean boiler room completely alone.

The message ended with a brutal threat to pour the priceless stem cells directly down the floor drain if I brought the police.

I told Ben to stay upstairs and wait for news about Rosie’s condition.

Ben completely ignored my request, silently following me as I crept down the dark, concrete stairwell.

We pushed open the heavy metal door to the basement, entering a humid room filled with hissing pipes.

David was standing near a large metal grate, casually holding the red medical cooler over the dark abyss.

He slowly turned around and pointed a silver handgun directly at my chest.
