Chapter 5 - The Desperate Chase

I dropped to my knees on the cold concrete, pressing both of my hands firmly against Ben’s bleeding shoulder.
Ben gasped for air, weakly ordering me to leave him behind and go save myself.
I absolutely refused to let the man who protected my sister die alone in a dark, dirty basement.
I ripped the fabric of my own shirt and tied a brutal tourniquet around his arm to slow the massive blood loss.
I grabbed a heavy iron wrench from a nearby maintenance workbench and rushed to the locked door.
I smashed the electronic keypad repeatedly until the plastic shattered and the magnetic lock finally disengaged.
I threw the door open and dragged Ben's heavy body out into the main public hallway.
A passing hospital janitor saw the blood and instantly yelled for an emergency trauma team.
I left Ben in the capable hands of the rushing doctors and sprinted wildly toward the parking garage.
I burst through the exit doors just in time to see David’s black SUV speeding toward the ticket barrier.
I spotted a massive, heavy-duty landscaping cart loaded with concrete bags parked near the crosswalk.

I pushed the heavy cart directly into the downward slope of the exit lane with every ounce of strength I possessed.
The cart rolled rapidly down the ramp, slamming violently into the front grill of David’s speeding vehicle.
