Chapter 5 - The Secret History

The sound of the heavy metal locks clicking into place echoed loudly through the empty warehouse.
Mark pulled his handgun and aimed it toward the dark catwalks above them.
Victoria rubbed her bruised wrists and told Mark that they had walked right into a fatal trap.
She explained that David never actually planned on letting either of them survive this night.
Mark asked her desperately how she knew so much about David's criminal operations.
Victoria took a deep breath and finally revealed her greatest, most dangerous secret.
She confessed that she was an undercover agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
She had been assigned to infiltrate Mark's life because they suspected his company was funding domestic terrorism.
Mark lowered his gun in absolute shock, feeling his entire reality crumbling around him.
He realized his entire romance with Victoria was built on a calculated government lie.
Victoria quickly clarified that she had actually fallen deeply in love with him and Sarah during the mission.
She discovered that David was the true criminal mastermind secretly using the company accounts.
When David realized Victoria was getting too close to the truth, he planted the tracker on Sarah.
He needed a distraction to steal the physical bearer bonds before the FBI could seize them.
Mark felt a mixture of profound anger and overwhelming relief that she truly cared for them.
Before they could discuss the betrayal any further, harsh fluorescent lights flickered on above them.
A loudspeaker crackled to life, and David's cruel voice filled the massive warehouse.
David mocked their little romantic reunion and thanked Mark for signing over the legal rights.
He announced that his men were going to burn the warehouse to the ground to destroy the evidence.
Mark and Victoria could smell the distinct, suffocating odor of gasoline pouring through the ceiling vents.
Victoria grabbed Mark's arm and pointed toward an old, rusted maintenance hatch on the floor.
They desperately pried the heavy metal grate open just as the first match was dropped from above.
A massive wall of orange fire instantly engulfed the entire ground floor of the building.
They jumped blindly into the dark maintenance shaft to escape the blazing inferno.
They landed painfully in a shallow pool of stagnant, freezing water beneath the warehouse.

Mark turned on his phone flashlight, illuminating a terrifying sight right in front of them.
Standing in the shadows of the tunnel were three heavily armed men wearing night-vision goggles.
