Chapter 10 - A New Beginning

David froze completely in place as he realized he was totally surrounded by federal agents.
He slowly dropped the combat knife into the thick mud and raised his hands in absolute defeat.
Heavily armed FBI tactical teams swarmed the ravine and forcefully threw David to the ground.
They locked him in heavy metal handcuffs and dragged him away toward the flashing police lights.
Victoria slid down the muddy bank, perfectly safe and accompanied by her federal colleagues.
Mark dropped his empty gun and pulled Victoria into a passionate, desperate, and loving kiss.
Sarah ran over and hugged them both, crying tears of pure joy and absolute relief.
The long, terrifying nightmare that had consumed their lives was finally and permanently over.
Six months later, life had completely changed for Mark, Victoria, and sweet little Sarah.
Mark had successfully worked with the government to recover all of his stolen corporate assets.
David was sentenced to life in a maximum-security federal prison without the possibility of parole.
Mark had officially married Victoria in a beautiful, private ceremony on a sunny beach.
They decided not to rebuild the ruined mansion and instead bought a cozy, secure house by the ocean.
Victoria had retired from field work to focus entirely on being the perfect mother to Sarah.
They spent their weekends building sandcastles, laughing loudly, and healing from their traumatic past.
Their family was finally safe, incredibly happy, and ready to start a perfect new life together.
One quiet evening, Mark walked into Sarah's bedroom to tuck her in for the night.
He kissed her forehead, turned on her favorite nightlight, and smoothed out her pink pillow.
As he adjusted the blankets, his hand brushed against a strange, stiff black envelope hidden underneath the pillow.

He opened the unmarked envelope to find a fresh, candid photograph of Victoria sleeping in their new bed.
Written casually on the back of the photo in wet red ink were the terrifying words, "She is not who you think she is."
