Chapter 5 - The Hidden Truth

The entire cabin was completely silent except for the howling wind ripping through the shattered window.
Liam took a slow step forward, his bruised face twisting with intense, barely contained anger.
He looked at our sleeping baby in my arms, and a single tear traced down his dirty cheek.
I could barely process the completely overwhelming shock of seeing him standing right in front of me.
My parents had always told me he took a massive cash buyout to walk away from the pregnancy.
They had constantly shown me fake text messages explicitly proving he wanted nothing to do with us.
Liam aggressively explained that the men who held him captive had finally slipped up tonight during the storm.
He had violently fought his way out of the industrial warehouse and tracked my stolen Mercedes to the airport.
Detective Miller slowly lowered his service weapon, deeply realizing the situation was entirely different now.
My grandfather placed a gentle, supportive hand on my trembling shoulder.
Vanessa suddenly started laughing hysterically from the floor where she had fallen.
She mocked Liam for thinking his dramatic rescue mission would actually change anything.
She reminded all of us that she still held the official birth certificate making her the legal mother.
She maliciously stated that she would drag us through the brutal court system for decades.
Liam slowly reached inside his heavy winter jacket and pulled out a thick, yellow manila envelope.
He threw the heavy envelope directly at Vanessa's feet with a loud, satisfying thud.
He confidently told her that he had not just escaped the warehouse empty-handed.
He had successfully broken into my father's private office safe before driving to the airport.
He revealed the envelope contained hard, irrefutable evidence of my parents bribing the hospital officials.
More importantly, it contained the actual recorded audio of Vanessa ordering the hitmen to kill Liam.
Vanessa's confident, cruel smile instantly vanished from her pale face.
She frantically scrambled across the floor to grab the envelope and destroy it.
Detective Miller swiftly stepped forward and heavily pinned her to the ground with his knee.
He formally informed her that she was under arrest for kidnapping, fraud, and attempted murder.
I finally let out a massive breath I felt like I had been holding for nine entire months.
The nightmare was finally falling apart, and my family was actually coming back together.

Suddenly, the plane violently lurched forward as the jet engines aggressively roared back to life.
The corrupt pilots in the locked cockpit had decided to take off with the door still wide open.
