Chapter 3 - The Dark Hangar

The Bentley tore through the icy suburban streets like a massive black missile.
My grandfather sat completely rigid in the back seat with his hands tightly gripping his silver cane.
Detective Miller was in the passenger seat, aggressively barking orders into his police radio.
He was desperately trying to get the airport tower to completely ground the private jet before it could take off.
I held Lily close to my racing heart, silently praying we would not be too late.
If that plane left American airspace, I would spend the rest of my life fighting a fourteen million dollar debt alone.
Worse, Vanessa would forever hold the legal rights to my beautiful daughter.
We violently smashed through the thin security gate at the private aviation terminal.
The freezing snow was blinding, but we could clearly see the sleek white jet idling on the frozen tarmac.
The powerful jet engines were already screaming loudly as the pilots prepared for immediate takeoff.
Our heavy car skidded wildly across the ice and slammed perfectly horizontal right in front of the aircraft's nose.
Detective Miller leaped out into the blizzard with his badge and gun held high in the air.
The jet engines slowly whined down to a complete halt as the pilot realized he was trapped.
We rushed toward the heavy metal stairs that were still lowered to the freezing ground.
My grandfather was the first one to step inside the luxurious cabin.
I followed closely behind him, fully expecting to see my parents cowering in fear.
The beautiful leather seats were completely empty except for a few scattered champagne glasses.
My mother and father were absolutely nowhere to be found on the expensive plane.
A terrible, sinking feeling completely overwhelmed my exhausted body.
We heard a slow, cruel clapping sound coming from the dark back bedroom of the jet.
Vanessa slowly stepped out of the shadows wearing my expensive cashmere coat.
She was completely alone and smiling with a highly disturbing, confident calmness.
She casually poured herself a glass of expensive champagne while Detective Miller aimed his gun at her.
My grandfather angrily demanded to know where the hell her parents were hiding.
Vanessa took a slow sip and laughed that cold, familiar laugh that made my blood boil.
She happily revealed that our parents had taken a totally different commercial flight out of the country hours ago.
She had purposely stayed behind as a deliberate decoy to waste our precious time.

She casually pressed a small button on a silver remote hidden in her coat pocket.
The heavy hydraulic stairs of the jet suddenly retracted, locking us completely inside the metal tube with her.
